Valerie Jean Olsen of Indianapolis passed away October 22, 2025, in Lebanon, Indiana where she had been residing at Homewood Health Campus.

Valerie was born September 1, 1933 in New York, New York. In her early years, she and her family followed her military father to Naval bases in California and Hawaii, but she always considered Manhattan as home.  She graduated Commerce High School there and attended Hunter College.  Valerie was a New York career woman and became the Director of the New York Service Center for Mass Mutual Insurance.

In 1953, she married her childhood sweetheart, Ronald Olsen, while he was in the Navy and spent some time as a Navy wife in Florida.  They moved back to New York in 1955, where they lived until they retired in 1993 and moved to Indianapolis to be near their grandchildren.  They had 68 years enjoying life together until Ronald's passing in 2021. They traveled extensively, experiencing the adventures of international travel and cruising.

Valerie was a warm, caring person who was enjoyable to be around. After she retired to Indianapolis, she was very involved in her grandchildren's lives and was much beloved by them.

Valerie is survived by her only child, Ronald Olsen, Jr., her daughter-in-law, Brooke Rigney Olsen, and her grandchildren, Andrew and Lindsey Olsen.

A private service for immediate family will be held on November 25, 2025 at the Olsen family home.
