Sven E.
Dorsey
Jan 7, 1945 — May 31, 2018
Thorntown
Sven E. Dorsey, age 73, passed away May 31, 2018 at home.
He was born January 7, 1945 in Trowbridge, England, the only child of the late Herman William Dorsey and Peggy Tarrant Dorsey.
Sven moved with his parents to El Paso, Texas and spent many summers with his grandmother in Ada, Oklahoma as a young child. He was raised by his mother in Indianapolis and graduated from Shortridge High School.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy and later attended Indiana Vocational Technical College (now known as Ivy Tech).
On July 22, 1978, Sven married Lisa K. Nohr in Indianapolis. She survives.
He worked at IUMC and was a Respiratory Therapist at the former Winona Hospital for sixteen years. He later worked at LawnRanger as a pruning crew supervisor, and retired from Maintenance in 2007 from Kauffman Engineering in Lebanon.
Hobbies included model-building and collecting, reading, history (particularly related to WWII), watching PBS and Jeopardy, listening to music (especially classical and jazz) and spending time with his beloved pet dogs and cats.
Sven was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he had served in several capacities prior to his illness. He also volunteered at the Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown and enjoyed muzzle loading and buckskinning.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by beloved sons Stanley T. and Aaron W. (Paula) Dorsey and daughters Lauren K. (Joe) Peters and Britta D. Dorsey; grandchildren Kristine Goudreau, Jessica, Victoria, Rebekah, Spencer and Xander Dorsey, and multiple nieces and nephews. Additional survivors include his mother-in-law Dorothy Nohr Slater (John), great grandson Matthew Goudreau, and special nieces Amanda Sumner Schapker (Will) and Melissa Sumner Green (Evan), who he helped care for after their mother's death. Sven is also survived by half siblings Richard and Ulricha Dorsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brothers Bill, Jack and John Dorsey, sister-in-law Kathryn Nohr Sumner and father-in-law Richard E. Nohr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sven's name to the Humane Society of Boone County, PO Box 708, Lebanon, IN 46052 or Boone County Senior Services, 515 Crown Pointe Drive, Lebanon, IN 46052.
Research into frontotemporal dementia will continue long after Sven's death, not only because of his own participation in the Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center (IADC) research program, but because of the others who have likewise so valiantly fought this disease, and their families who fought this battle with them.
