Shirley (Heflin) Lasley, 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away December 22, 2022.

Shirley was born on December 11, 1938, the oldest of 4 girls, to Harold and Dorothy (Kibbey) Heflin. She grew up on their small family farm, just south of Lebanon. As a girl, she enjoyed being with friends and attending school events. Her parents often hosted chili suppers on nights prior to ball games at the high school and that is where Shirley's love and gift of hospitality originated. Shirley attended Lebanon schools, graduating in 1956. While in school, Shirley was a member of the Art Club, Future Homemakers of America and the Commercial Club.

Shirley attended Indiana Business College, in Indianapolis, and spent her entire career working for Shumate Business Forms (later called Reynolds & Reynolds and Relizon) in Lebanon, as a receptionist, and later secretary to the president and eventually as the human resources coordinator.

On January 18, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Lasley, at a small church in Advance, Indiana.

Shirley was a lifelong Christian, who accepted Christ in her youth and made sure her children were raised in the church. Shirley and Marvin attended the United Church of Christ in Advance for several years, and later attended the First United Church of Christ in Lebanon. Eventually, they found a church home at the First Baptist Church of Lebanon and Shirley spent many happy years as part of the congregation, serving on various committees and planning many church events.

Shirley was creative and loved art, painting and sewing. She painted the murals for the First Baptist Church's Vacation Bible School for many years and created art that hung in the homes of her family. She was also a gifted quilter and made quilts for every member of her family. She also enjoyed sewing children's blankets that were donated to the hospital, where she volunteered, and for various friends when they became parents.

Shirley was a member of the Merry Mixers Home Economics Club and served as treasurer of the Boone County 4-H Fair for a number of years. She was part of several quilting groups, bible study groups, and was thrilled to visit Israel and be baptized (again) in the Jordan River.

Shirley was generous with her time, talents and resources and hosted many events for friends and family, including ladies teas, family holidays and birthdays, church group events, progressive dinners, and she and Marvin spent many enjoyable hours entertaining friends in their home. Shirley was a gracious hostess who paid close attention to the smallest of details. Shirley's favorite holiday was Christmas and she loved selecting just the right gifts for her family and friends and enjoyed seeing their faces light up when they opened her gifts.

Shirley's greatest accomplishment was as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved and cherished her family and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She was also blessed with the gift of generosity, giving to many charitable organizations throughout the years (too many to list).

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, for visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Wright officiating at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 North Lebanon St., Lebanon, Indiana. Shirley will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.

Shirley is survived by her children Mark Lasley (Julie McNeely), Steve (Susan) Lasley, and Charlene Hickey, all of Lebanon. She is also the grandmother of Amber (Brandon) Childers of Florida, Joe (Avery) Lasley of Indianapolis, and Seth Hickey of St. Meinrad, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Marvin Lasley, her eldest son, Jeffrey Lasley, and her great granddaughter, Isabel Wang.
