Robert “Bob” William Mount, 84, of Lebanon, Indiana, crossed the final checkered flag finish line into heaven on October 27, 2026, at Homewood Health Campus.
Bob was born on August 27, 1942, to Robert E. and Anna Kathryn Mount. From an early age, he developed the curiosity, dedication, and steady work ethic that would define his life.
On October 22, 1965, Bob married the love of his life, Juna (Jones) Mount. Together they shared a life filled with love, faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a testament to commitment and partnership, spanning more than six decades.
Bob graduated from Lebanon High School in 1960. He was very intelligent and his lifelong pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a Junior Accounting degree from Indiana Business College in 1965 and later complete studies in Real Estate Appraisal at IUPUI in 1994. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969.
Throughout his life, Bob embraced many careers and opportunities that reflected his diverse interests. He worked as a sales associate at Big Four Hobbies, served as a staff photographer for the Indianapolis 500, owned Mount Floral Supply, and co-owned Jones Florist in Lebanon with his wife.
One of Bob's greatest passions was racing, especially the Indianapolis 500, which he shared with his family. For more than twenty years, he was an important part of race operations, serving as a scorer and eventually as Scoring Captain beginning in 1978. He was a proud member of the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers Club, where he treasured the friendships and memories formed through decades of involvement with "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Racing wasn't simply a hobby for Bob; it was woven into the fabric of his life. Whether supporting his and his son’s own go-kart and midget racing teams, attending races, or volunteering at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he truly loved the sport and the people it brought together. The friendships he formed through racing lasted a lifetime, and some of his fondest memories were made at the track.
He was an accomplished photographer whose work included as a United States Auto Club race photographer. His photos have been published in highly regarded books about open-wheel racing. His extensive photographic collection preserves crucial moments of 1950s, 60s, and 70s motorsport history. To say he was a racing photographer does not do justice to the masterful work and knowledge of details about the cars that he had. Bob would provide historical verification, chassis identification, box scores and photo collection work for legendary open-wheel racing books. He spent years meticulously helping racing historians.
Bob was a dedicated model railroader and Lionel train collector. He delighted in sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with his granddaughter, friends, and fellow collectors through the Train Collectors Association. His love of trains took him to conventions across the country, including Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. He spent a lot of his free time working on his model railroad layout, which masterfully covered an entire room.
Faith was the cornerstone of Bob's life. As a devoted member of Lebanon First Baptist Church, he faithfully served as an usher, deacon, and trustee. He believed in leading by example, quietly helping wherever there was a need and offering a kind word to anyone who crossed his path.
Those who knew Bob will remember his gentle nature, dependability, talent, and willingness to help others. He was the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone, share a story about trains or racing, and leave people feeling like old friends. His quiet faith, servant's heart, and genuine kindness made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Juna Mount; his son, John (Jessica) Mount; cherished granddaughter, Lindsey Mount; step-grandson, Jonathan Moore; step-granddaughter, Erica (Jackson) Freed; sister, Carol Wallis; nephew, Brian Wallis; and longtime family friend, Dione Finney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Anna Kathryn Mount and his infant twin brother, John Carey.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.

Bob's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the friends he valued, the church he faithfully served, and the countless memories created through his love of trains, photography, racing, and community. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
