Nancy Reiss, 85, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by family.
Nancy was born on January 21, 1941, in Coshocton, OH. She attended Ohio State University. She married Jim Reiss in 1961. Nancy and Jim called many places home during their 50 years together due to Jim’s 44-year career with JCPenney. They lived in Clarksburg, West Virginia; Charleston, West Virginia; Xenia, Ohio; Newark, Ohio; Richmond, Indiana; Lebanon, Indiana; Crystal Lake, Illinois; Marion, Indiana; Tellico Village, Tennessee; and returned to Lebanon, Indiana.
Nancy was preceded in death by husband, Jim; parents Ernest and Ernestine Cornell, sister, Linda Eaton, and granddaughters Kelsey and Sydney Hendricks. Survived by daughters, Shelley (Mark) Hendricks, Amy (Nick) Laughner, and son, Andrew (Michelle) Reiss, grandchildren, Markus (Destenee) Hendricks, Joshuah (Eden) Laughner, Bailee Laughner, Elizabeth Reiss, and Evan Reiss.
Nancy was a teaching assistant at Stokes and Lebanon Middle School and Lyndal Middle School in Il. She was a substitute teacher for five years in Marion, IN.
Volunteer work was her main focus while residing in TN. She was chairman for 10 years of the Tellico Village book sale; a major fundraiser of over $10,000 per year. She was active in Good Neighbor Thrift Shoppe, where she served on the board and management team. She returned to Lebanon in 2013, where she continued her volunteering at her daughter’s Indianapolis classroom for 10 years. She enjoyed many years of coach trips going to Alaska, Hawaii, Colorado, Canada, Nova Scotia, New York, and Florida. Her greatest joy was spending time with children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held Thursday, August 13, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Nancy’s home.
