Obituary

Mr. Michael D. Slagle, 70, of Lebanon, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.

Mike was born Feb. 25, 1951, in Lebanon, the son of Cherry (Wethington) Grisel and the late Keith Slagle. He married Barbara Allen in 1987.  She survives.

Mike graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1969. He worked as a police officer for the Lebanon Police Department for 22 years, retiring in 1994. Following retirement, Mike worked for Sees Police Supply, United Armor, Purity Wholesale Grocers, and Eagle Trident Security at Ortho Indy before retiring in 2013. Mike was a devoted to his family and he always put them first.  He was extremely proud of his sons and grandchildren.  Mike especially enjoyed the family vacations to the mountains.  Mike enjoyed spending time with his many friends. If he considered you a friend, you were a friend for life. He had a sense of humor that was unique to him and was known to share it with his many friends.  He also enjoyed reading, especially American history, watching old TV westerns and movies, listening to music, taking long rides in the country and sitting on the front porch watching the world go by and spending time with his beloved dogs.  He was generous with his time and always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed help.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Slagle of Lebanon; mother, Cherry Grisel of Lebanon; sons, Chris (Tino) Slagle of Greencastle and Josh (Addie) Slagle of Thorntown; and grandchildren, Myckahgafatasi, Taumaiaemevera, Mythiusfaatea, Maddenpapaitau, Majortinousi, and Taimanelusia Slagle and Alister Slagle. In addition to his father, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanie Slagle.

Family and friends will gather Monday, Feb. 7, for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Paul Wireman and Roy Grigsby officiating in the funeral home. Mike will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
