Melinda Turner, 71, of Advance, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 3, 1954, in Frankfort, a daughter of the late Melvin and MaryEllen (Applegate) Basham. Mindy married David Turner on March 23, 1974.

Mindy’s life was centered around the people she loved most—her family and her community. She lovingly raised her children, foster children, and grandchildren, always making sure those around her felt welcomed, cared for, and loved. She was known as the neighborhood mom.

Survivors include her husband, David Turner; children, Daniel (Ruby) Turner, Karrie Cole, Carla (Sydney) Kellogg, and Karen Puckett (Robert); 8 foster children; siblings, Barbara (Larry) Newhouse and Melvin (Luz Angela) Basham; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy Basham; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mindy was preceded in death by her grandson, Sydney Kellogg V; siblings, Harry Basham and Carol Manning; and son-in-law, Perry Cole.

Family and friends will gather Wednesday, September 23, for visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. at Advance Community Christian Church, 305 N. Main Street, Advance, IN 46102.
