Obituary

Mr. Marshall Meritt, 77, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born January 19, 1948, in Auburn, Nebraska, a son of the late Elvis and Ellen (Hallenbeck) Meritt.

On July 25, 1971, Marshall married Cheryl Hudson, and together they recently celebrated 54 years of loving marriage.

Marshall dedicated his life to caring for others, working as a registered nurse for more than 50 years across several states. He retired from Essex Nursing Home. Beyond his professional life, Marshall enjoyed making birdhouses and playing both the guitar and keyboard. A man of deep faith, he was an active member of the Christian Church, Church of Christ, where he faithfully served as an Elder and Bible School Teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Meritt of Lebanon; sons, Aryn (Franny) Meritt of Morehead, KY and James (Jenni) Meritt of Adrian, MI; grandchildren, Daniel, Amelia, Abigail, David, Caleb, Sophia, and Izabell Meritt; sisters, Elva Masters of Akron, CO, Linda (Dave) Gertson of Akron, CO, and Rena (Dick) Hall of Ames, IA; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Masters.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, August 23, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m., with Brother Aryn Meritt officiating, in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Marshall will be laid to rest at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown.
