Mark R. Thompson entered into the presence of his Savior Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the age of 79 years.

Mark was born to Howard and Dortha Thompson on July 4, 1942, the seventh of eight children, and grew up on the family farm in rural Boone County.  He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1960.  Mark worked in a local grocery store, and in the garage and body shop of Foxworthy Ford, before starting his career at Delco Remy in Anderson.  Mark served his country in the National Guard and as Union Township Trustee for two terms.

Throughout his life and especially in his retirement, Mark loved to serve others with his talents and skills as a handyman.  As a natural problem-solver, the challenge of a project engaged him and its completion was as fulfilling to him as it was to the customer, the family member, the friend, or even the stranger who received his help.  Mark never lost his desire to help others, having completed his final work only weeks ago.

As a young man, Mark won the approval of Marvin and Francis Quick and began to date their daughter, Jo Carol.  As a couple they enjoyed "adventurous driving" in Mark's 1957 Chevy Bel Air and married in 1964.  Mark and Jo Carol recently celebrated their 58th anniversary.

Mark is survived by Jo Carol, and by his sister April (José) Quinones.   He is also survived by: four children, Troy (Marla), Tricia, Denise (Steven) Smith, and Travis (Carrie); ten grandchildren: JoHannah (Thomas) Denning, Zachary Smith, MiKaela (Jeffrey) Pennington, MaKenzie Smith, RyLeigh Smith, Josephine Thompson, Walter Thompson, Annalise Thompson, Margaret Thompson, and Elijah Smith; five great-grandchildren: Isaiah Denning, Carter Pennington, Liam Pennington, Isabella Denning, and Adeline Pennington; by sisters-in-law Roberta Thompson, Diane Thompson, and Nancy Bitner; by brother-in-law Larry Quick; by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members; and by many, many friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; by six siblings: Howard Thompson, Jr., Paul Thompson, Julia Stevens, Dale Thompson, Keith Thompson, and Nancy Harbaugh; and by one great grandson, Steven Smith, Jr.

Family and friends will gather Friday, Jul. 1, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Mark will be laid to rest at Mts. Runn cemetery in Zionsville.

Mark will be greatly missed but the family is comforted by the knowledge that we will see him again at the time when death is rendered powerless and all tears are wiped away.
