Mark Rose, better known to many as "Buddy," passed away on March 29, 2026 at the age of 63 leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, quiet strength, questionable DIY decisions, and a truly impressive number of dogs through the years.

Though technically a stepfather to Kelly (Graham) Anderson, he never acknowledged the "step"—he simply stepped in and stayed. He was a devoted husband to Joyce, a proud father, grandfather ("Buddy" to Maggie Turner), and a steady presence to anyone lucky enough to know him.

"Buddy" earned his name thanks to a toddler's nickname, and it stuck—fitting perfectly for a man who was, quite simply, everyone's buddy. He showed up. Always.

In his younger years, he described himself as "a bit wild," though details may vary depending on which family member you ask. His time in the Army gave him discipline, determination, and a lifelong commitment to doing things his own way—especially when fixing them.

And fix things he did. With no instructions, questionable methods, and confidence that could only be described as bold, he could repair just about anything… almost always successfully. Notable exception: a neighborhood chainsaw incident where he took out neighborhood power, and a slip on the roof that was an early brush with death.

His garage was his kingdom, his tools his language, and his solutions—while not always conventional—were undeniably effective.

Buddy loved dogs. All dogs. (With the notable and unwavering exception of poodles.) What began as "just looking" at puppies frequently resulted in new family members, including KC, Molly, Bailey, Kailey, Kailani & Cubby. Even the most difficult pets—and the occasional cat he insisted he didn't like—somehow found their way into his lap.

At his core, Buddy had a soft heart, even if it was occasionally hidden behind a grumble.

He loved Joyce deeply and faithfully, a commitment he made clear early on and upheld every day of his life. He was a man of his word, especially when it came to family.

Diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and given 24 months to live, Buddy once again did things his own way—giving his family seven years instead. More time to show up. More time to be present. More time to be Buddy.

He never missed the moments that mattered: birthday celebrations, band contests, graduations and holidays. Big or small, if it involved someone he loved, he was there.

Buddy is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce (Jasenak) of Lebanon; his daughter, Kelly (Graham) Anderson and husband, Brent of Carmel; granddaughter, Madelyn (Maggie) Turner of Carmel; brother, Greg Rose and wife, Melinda of Whitestown; and mother, Wanda (Beliles) Rose of Lebanon. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Rose of Whitestown.

He leaves behind a simple but powerful legacy: show up, fix what you can, love your people, and don't overthink it.

And if there's one thing we know for sure—it's that wherever he is now, he's surrounded by dogs… a lot of dogs.

There will be a Celebration of Life & Service at Northview Church, Carmel campus, 12900 Hazel Dell Pkwy, Carmel, IN 46033 on April 15th, 2026 from 4-6 p.m. with a small service at 5 p.m.
