Joe
Harrison
Jan 4, 1951 — Dec 7, 2021
Lebanon
Joe Harrison, 70, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Joe was born Jan. 4, 1951, in Akron, OH, a son of the late Clanney and Helen (Moore) Harrison. He married Jane Fultz on Dec. 23, 1977. She survives.
Joe graduated from Field High School in Akron with the class of 1968. He graduated from the University of Akron in 1973, where he also played collegiate football, and was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He worked as the plant engineer for Zachary Confections for 27 years. Following retirement, he enjoyed working as a courier for Witham Memorial Hospital.
He was known as someone who would go to the ends of the earth to protect and care for the family and friends he loved. His love was strong, unconditional, and unwavering. He was unapologetically generous and enjoyed the Christmas season most.
Joe was a member of Lebanon Christian Church for nearly 20 years and enjoyed participating in an active Bible Study group, many of whom became lifelong friends. More than anything Joe loved his family, four children, and nine grandchildren. He was known for his love of newborns and babies and could often be found cradling them in his arms.
Joe enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his garage and leaves behind a generous collection of tools and gadgets. He could often be found on his John Deere tractor, sometimes with a grandkid or two in tow.
Travel was always an important part of Joe's life. As he and Jane approached retirement they adventured to New Zealand and Australia, took a bicycle tour in Rhode Island, traveled to many National Parks, and explored San Francisco with their grandson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Jane Harrison of Lebanon; children, Angie Garner, Tony Harrison, Abbi (Ryan) Achterberg, and Ryan (Jen) Harrison; siblings, John (Elizabeth) Harrison, Peggy White, and Kathy (Doug) Koegle; and grandchildren, Nikki, Jake, Andrew, Evan, Noah, Kate, William, Georgia, and Sullivan.
Family and friends will gather Monday, Dec. 13, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the South Park Cemetery, Greensburg.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Boone County.
