Mrs. Joanne Carter, 93, of Thorntown, passed away Sept. 9, 2020.

Joanne was born Jan. 30, 1927 in Cass County, IN, a daughter of the late Ellery and Evaleen (Kingery) Louthain and one of eight siblings. She was married in 1949 to J. Orville Carter. He passed in 2005.

Joanne was a homemaker, raising four children and helping her husband run the family farm. She was a member of the Sugar Plain Friends Church, active in the Gideon's Auxiliary, supported the Boone County 4-H community, and was a Master Gardener.

Survivors include her children, Charles (Margaret) Carter, Dixie (Richard) Justice, Rebecca Battcher and daughter-in-law Teresa Carter; eight grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.   In addition to her parents, husband and siblings, Joanne was preceded in death by her son James Carter.

Family and friends will gather Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon.
