Glinda May Jones Hammock, 92, of Lebanon, passed away April 21, 2017, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.
Glinda was born on November 23, 1924, in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of the late Elsie Allen and Orbray Jones.
After graduation from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Glinda worked in the accounting department of Eli Lilly and Company. In 1946, her family moved to Brownsburg and Glinda continued to commute to the city and her job.
On December 1, 1948, she married Gordon Lee Hammock in Brownsburg, IN, after a whirlwind courtship. They were married in the minister's home on a Friday morning and left town immediately after the ceremony in a semi because Gordon was working. His load was mattresses to Florida and a load of oranges back to Indiana. What a fun honeymoon!
Glinda was a farm wife and mother. She and Gordon worked on their farms doing everything farm hands would do. She still found time to raise their 2 children, Jane and Perry. She loved to preserve the produce from the family garden, along with the meat grown on the farm, and was a great cook. While raising their kids, she helped with Girl Scouts, 4-H, and Little League.
Her community volunteering and involvement included being a charter member of the Witham Volunteers, the Witham Foundation, Boone County Historical Society, 4-H Booster Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department, an active member of the Perry Homemakers Extension Club, and the Perry Past Presidents Club (both now disbanded), and the Lebanon Educational Foundation.
Her interests included reading, crafts, and traveling with Gordon and her kids. After Gordon's retirement, they wintered for several years in Ft Myers, FL.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane, her son, Perry and his wife Chris, and her grandchildren, Kate, Emily (Matt), and Brett.
Glinda is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Gordon, her sister, June, and her brother, 1st Lt George Jones.
Family and friends will gather Monday, April 24, 2017 for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Saneta Maiko officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N.
