On Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 Gerald Wayne "Red" Farley, loving husband of Marcia Wall Farley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He is survived by children Cindra Venturella (Vince) and David Farley (Tonja), seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and his brother Gordon (Delores) Farley.

Preceded in death by his daughters Stephanie Beth and Barbara Elizabeth and brothers Austin, Leslie and sister Mildred.

Red was born on Feb. 19, 1938 in Crawfordsville, IN to Howard and Lora Keller Farley. He grew up in the Alamo and Crawfordsville area. He played basketball and graduated from Dover High School, Class of 1957.  As a senior, he was the starting guard on the Dover H.S. Boone County Basketball Championship team.

Red was a 1999 retiree of R.R. Donnelly & Sons. He became an Inkman Journeyman after completing his apprenticeship. Red was a voracious reader of literature, with a vast knowledge of history and sports. He loved auto racing, NASCAR and the New York Yankees. Enjoyed playing euchre with his brothers and it was reputed they were card counters, and virtually unbeatable.

Co-owner of the former Sunshine Café in Crawfordsville, he never met a stranger and always had a joke, gag, or prank for the unsuspecting. Also an early investor in the rare rubber nut tree farming co-op. He solicited for this venture almost every weekend at New Ross Steak House.

Maintained a cabin in Dogtooth Lake Canada for 25 years. An avid, if not expert fisherman, with a collection of over 50 rods and reels. Loved the outdoors, gardening, trees, animals and tending fires, indoors and out. Morel mushrooms could not hide from him and his fried chicken was world class.

A member of VFW Auxiliary, VFW Honor Guard, Thorntown American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the Pleasant View Church, where he served as a trustee for several years.  A beacon of joy for children at church and a budding thespian willing to take on new roles for the amusement and enjoyment of others. As the song title goes, Red did it his way.

A memorial service celebrating Red's life will be on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 am at Pleasant View Church, 5295 West State Road 32, Lebanon IN 46052 with a luncheon reception after services.
