Mrs. Gaylon Irene Bowen, 89, of Lebanon, passed away Feb. 16, 2018, at her home. Gaylon was born June 11, 1928, the daughter of the late Earl and Edith (Harsin) Burgin. She was married to the love of her life Earl E. Bowen, of Sheridan, on March 12, 1950, for 66 years. He passed away July 25, 2016.


Gaylon graduated from Perry Central High School in 1946. She was a Boone County 4-H member for 10 years and she was the Farm Bureau Queen. She was also a member of the Boone County Perry Homemakers. Gaylon loved farming with her husband. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She enjoyed raising 2 daughters and attending all of her grandchildren's school and 4-H events. Gaylon loved gardening and making new friends.

Gaylon was employed by Farm Bureau. She also had a chicken and egg route with her mother. Gaylon also sold Avon.

Survivors include her daughters Kathy (Phil) Staton of Lebanon and Lisa Ping of Jamestown; grandchildren Levi Ping (Ciera Dunbar) of Jamestown, Erika Staton (Drew Green) of Evansville, and Courtney (Cory) Duff of Lebanon; great-grandchildren Travis Ping, Brayton and Abbi Duff, and Kennedy Green; and several nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Gaylon was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Earl, brother- and sister-in-law Marion and Thelma Burgin, and son-in-law Rick Ping.

Family and friends will gather Wed., Feb. 21, 2018 for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and services will take place Thur., Feb. 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Staton officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Gaylon will be laid to rest at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown.
