Mrs. Donna Swank-Rice, 84, of Thorntown, passed away Sept. 27, 2017.

Donna was born Nov. 23, 1932 to the late Arthur and Mary (Bean) McDaniel. She married the late Bill Swank on Nov. 21, 1952. She married Ed Rice on Dec. 24, 1994. He survives.

Donna lived most of her life in Boone County. Bill and Donna lived a short time in Ft. Leonardwood, MO, while Bill served in the military. Donna was a homemaker until Bill passed away and then she served as secretary of the Dover Christian Church from 1983 to 1985. She then became secretary at Western Boone Schools and retired in 2011.

Donna was close with many of the students at Western Boone. She enjoyed staying in touch with many through Facebook over the years. Donna loved attending Western Boone athletic events. She loved watching all the kids but was especially proud to watch her grandchildren at Western Boone and Lebanon.

Donna was an active member of the Dover Christian Church. She was also a member of Psi Iota Xi, Red Hats and Merri Mixers. Donna was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her faith community, family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Ed Rice of Thorntown, her children: Teresa (Michael) Fisher of Lebanon, Mike (Diane) Swank of Thorntown and Becky (Willie) Smith of Thorntown; a sister-in-law Barbara (Raymond) Smith of Brownsburg; grandchildren: Matthew (Marilyn) Fisher of Jacksonville, FL, Melissa Fisher of Taipei, Taiwan, Joshua (Adrienne) Swank of Ft. Wayne, IN, Jessica Swank of Thorntown, Jared Swank of Thorntown, Jaclyn (Nathan) Jarvis of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jason Smith of Thorntown; a great-grandson Connor Swank of Ft. Wayne, IN; step-children: Doug (Mary) Rice of Jamestown, Dan (Lorrie) Rice of Thorntown and Beth (Doug) Richardson of Lebanon; step-grandchildren: Sarah Rice of Lafayette, Adam Rice of Whitestown, Emma Rice of Jamestown, Maggie Rice and Michael Rice both of Thorntown, Kerrie Richardson of Lebanon and Evan Richardson of Chicago, IL; along with several nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by a brother Charles (Barbara) McDaniel.

Family and friends will gather Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 for visitation from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. at Dover Christian Church, 955 N. SR 75, Lebanon, IN. Donna will be laid to rest at Dover Cemetery in Dover.
