Mr.  David Frieling Schortinghuis, 86, of Zionsville, passed away May 5, 2020 at Hearth At Tudor Gardens with his wife at his side.

Dave was born Sept. 6, 1933 in Holland, MI.  He was the son of the late Rev. John Frieling and Marie (Michmershuizen) Schortinghuis.  He married Janice Vahlkamp on July 3, 1955.

Dave served in the U.S. Army and was an assistant to the Chaplain during the Korean War.  He attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE where he graduated with a degree in business.  This led to a 30-year career as a financial manager at Eli Lilly and Company.

Dave was a man of faith who loved serving the Lord.  He was a Sunday School teacher.  He served on several Reformed Church boards as an Elder and Deacon.  He had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir.  He often sang solos with his wife accompanying him on the piano.

Dave had strong family values.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren.  His other interests included working in the yard, bowling and volunteering.

Dave is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice and their children, Sharon (Daniel) Amonett of Murfreesboro, TN, Diane (Timothy) Mills of Indianapolis, and Carol (Frank) Jensen of Lebanon, along with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He has a sister, Esther Bakker of Hull, IA.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, June 6, 2020 for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon.  Dave will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.  You are invited to visit the website www.strawmyerdrury.com where you may sign his online register and leave a personal message.
