David B. "Davey" Jones, 87, of Lebanon, died Friday, March 24, 2023, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon. He was born September 18, 1935, a son of the late Liston Bird and Martha (Kern) Jones. Following the death of his father, David was adopted and reared by Buren J. Jones. He married Loretta Jackson on July 16, 1955. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2005.
David graduated from Culver Military Academy with the class of 1954. He went on to attend Purdue University, where he was active in the Glee Club. David proudly owned Jones Greenhouse with his father, Buren, and his brother, Benjamin and was known for his beautiful geraniums. He was an avid supporter of Purdue University and the John Purdue Club. David was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Lebanon Elks Club, the First Baptist Church, and served on the board for Boone REMC. He enjoyed his role as a square dance caller for several years.
Survivors include his children, Sherry (Tom) Goins of Westfield, Shelia (Steve) Lingle of Kirklin, Shirley Murray of Westfield, Buren (Donna) Jones of Westfield, David (Donna Butke) Jones of Carmel, and Sharla (David) Watson of Orlando, FL; siblings, Benjamin (Linda) Jones, Juna (Robert) Mount, and Jenny (Jim) Short; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by his sister, Linda (Dr. James) Myers.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Final care of David has been entrusted to the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon.
