Obituary

Cynthia Louise Shives Urban, 61, of Carmel, passed away Dec. 14, 2019, in the loving arms of her husband Tom, at their home in Carmel.

Cindy was born Apr. 24, 1958, in Lebanon, IN, the youngest daughter of the late John and Wiladean (Sanders) Shives.  Cindy graduated from Western Boone High School in 1976, then married the love of her life and best friend Tom, on April 3, 1981.

Having held different managerial jobs throughout her life, at the time of her death, Cindy was the owner/CEO of Urban Connections, which she loved, but she was so looking forward to retirement and spending even more quality time with her family.

Cindy was always busy helping others and active in varying organizations. She was a lifelong active (and influential) member of the Republican party, and held various leadership roles throughout the years.  Along with Tom, she was a member of the Plum Creek Golf Club and the Bridgewater Country Club. She was a previous board member of the Women of Bridgewater Women's Club.

Cindy was always known as a "go-getter"—if you wanted something done and done right, you asked Cindy to do it.  She was a strong woman.  Although she was very active outside of her home, her main focus was her family, her greatest accomplishment.   She loved her husband, children and grandchildren and would (and did) do anything and everything for them.

Besides her family, Cindy loved Florida, the sun and the beach.  She also found a passion and talent for repurposing antique furniture.  She loved life in general and strived to live it to the fullest, making the most of every day.

Cindy leaves behind to cherish her memories,  her beloved husband, of 38 years, Tom of Carmel; children Arminda Urban (Tiara) of  Indianapolis and Andrew Urban of Indianapolis; grandchildren Julianna Urban and Lucas Urban; sisters  Linda Coffman (Ron),  Donna Nolan (Dale),  and Peggy (Tim)  Osburn; brothers John Shives, Jim Shives (Carol) and Leslie Shives; brother-in-law Chip Bowles; many nieces and nephews; and friends far too numerous to list.  Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law George Urban, and sister-in-law Mary Jane Bowles.

Family and friends will gather Fri., Dec. 20, 2019, for visitation, from 4-8 p.m. and an hour before the funeral service on Sat., Dec. 21, 2019 at 12 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Cindy will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. You are invited to visit the website www.strawmyerdrury.com where you may sign her online register and leave a personal message.
