Cynthia Joyce Nave, lovingly known as "Cindy," passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at Avon Health and Rehab at the age of 81.

Born on February 21, 1944 to the late Gerald and Dorothea (Williams) Phillabaum in Indianapolis, IN. Cindy was a lifelong Hoosier—and occasional Kentuckian—who spent her later years in Brownsburg, IN. Throughout her life, she embraced many roles, including working as a merchandiser for Nicholas Sales and Company, an independent Mary Kay consultant, and later as a secretary at Lighthouse Tabernacle Church. At Lighthouse, she not only served administratively but also gave her time and creativity to coordinate cherished church events like the annual Mother and Daughter Banquet.

Cindy was married to Donald Nave of Indianapolis for 52 years. She is survived by her husband, Donald; her children, Donald "Donnie" Nave Jr. and Elizabeth Nave; and her four grandchildren, Miranda Close, Dori Close, Noah Nave, and Jonah Nave. She was preceded in death by her son Stephen Close and her sister Alyce Raelene Carlton. She is also survived by her brother Stewart Rowland and his wife Wendy Rowland, her brother-in-law Mirron Carlton, and her sister-cousin, Cheryl Quigley.

A lifelong artist at heart, Cindy found joy in creating beauty through her hobbies. She spent countless hours painting ceramics at Sally Ceramics in Pittsboro, winning first-place prizes for both ceramics and canvas paintings at the Hendricks County Fair. She also enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and cooking—all heartfelt expressions of her love and creativity. Cindy gave back to her community as a Girl Scout leader and school volunteer, always generous with her time and talents.

Known for her infectious laugh and captivating storytelling, Cindy had a gift for making those around her feel seen and cared for. She loved going out to eat with friends, watching British murder mysteries, and expressing love through acts of service. Her creativity, warmth, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. on July 11 at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, IN 46052.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association or the American Heart Association.
