Colonel (Retired) Robert Leon Sharpe, 89, of Lebanon, passed away Sept. 12, 2018.

Bob was a son of the late Rev. Wilber B. Sharpe and wife, H. Olive (Shaw) Sharpe and was born on April 7, 1929 in Lebanon, IN. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1947 and married Lois Jean (McRoberts) July 15, 1951, a loving marriage that lasted 67 years. She survives along with their three sons: Craig Sharpe (wife Carol), Carmel, IN; Brent Sharpe (wife Janis), Tulsa, OK; Alex Sharpe (wife Kim), Carmel, IN.

Bob served 33 years in the Military service. He was drafted into the Army, January 3, 1951. He attended Officers Candidate School at Ft. Bliss, TX and commissioned a 2 ^nd Lieutenant in 1952 where he trained an Anti-Aircraft unit. Later he graduated from schools in San Antonio, TX, Ft. Sill, OK and Command and General Staff College, Ft Leavenworth, KS.

Col. Sharpe served on special assignment in the Office of the Military Support to Civil Defense at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He also served the Indiana Army National Guard for blizzard, tornado and flood relief in Indiana. He served as a full time technician for the Indiana National Guard in Lebanon, Crawfordsville and Indianapolis. His assignments were: Military Support, Director of Personnel and Administration, Director of Supply Services and Executive Office for the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office.

His Military Services awards were: Humanitarian Service, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct, National Service Defense, Armed Forces Reserve Component Achievement and Indiana Long Service Medal.

Bob lived his faith and had a compassion for helping people. He was a true Patriot and enjoyed serving his country. He enjoyed music and sang with the Barber Shop Quartet "Three Flats and a Sharpe". Bob and his family were very active members in the Crawfordsville and Southport Baptist churches and First Baptist in Lebanon. He served as a youth leader, youth programs, and Deacon and on several Boards. He served Moving Forward in Faith and enjoyed many mission trips and serving on the American Baptist Macedonia Ministry for Indiana. He was a member of The Gideon's International, Kiwanis and Birthday Club for 8 couples. He enjoyed gardening and playing golf with his sons, grandsons and friends. After retirement Bob did some PR work for Hoosier Village while traveling the country with his lovely wife Lois in their motor home.

Besides his wife and sons he is survived by 10 grandchildren: Andy (Courtney) of Carmel, IN; Matt (Emily) of Denver, CO; Kristen (Michael) of  Perth, Australia; Preston (Ashley) of Nashville, TN; Kaitlin (Keith) of Tulsa, OK; Spencer (Amber) of Nashville, TN; Hayley (Grant) of Tulsa, OK; Nicholas (Kasey) of Seattle, WA; Kyle of Carmel, IN; and Michael of Lexington, KY; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also close to many nieces and nephews; a brother Wilber B. (Bill) (Mary) Sharpe Jr, of Ashburn, VA; brother-in-law, Herb McRoberts (Faedetta) of Lebanon, IN; and sister-in-law, Wanda Shirling, Mesa, AZ. Preceded in death are a brother, Eugene Sharpe and sisters: Agnes Hill, Virginia Merriott and Barbara Hicks.

Family and friends will gather Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 at Hoosier Village in the chapel for visitation from 2-4 p.m. followed by a Celebration Service at 4 p.m.; on Monday, Sept. 17, family and friends will gather at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary for a visitation from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. with Military Rites at Lincoln Memory Gardens.
