Mrs. Cherry A. Grisel, 91, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.
Cherry was born July 28, 1930, in Clementsville, KY, a daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland and Myrtle Elizabeth Wethington. She married Malvis Grisel and they shared over 40 years together before he passed away Nov. 15, 2019.
Cherry graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1949. She worked for the A&P Grocery Store for many years at various locations, retiring when the store closed in the mid '70s. Cherry then went on to work as a census taker for several years.
Cherry and her husband, Mal enjoyed collecting and re-finishing furniture, and had their own antique booth for many years. She also would help Mal paint. Cherry was a talented seamstress, doing alterations in the home and having made a majority of her own clothes. She also enjoyed genealogy, where her and Mal would oftentimes travel to track various leads. Cherry was a member of the Boone County Historical Society for many years, and worked tirelessly with Mal to help restore the Cragun house. They also loved traveling throughout the U.S. together.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Barbara Slagle; step-children, Rick (Marita) Grisel, Malana Grisel, and Karen (Dennis) Cross; step- daughter-in-law, Kim Grisel; grandchildren, Chris (Tino) Slagle, Josh (Addie) Slagle, Joell (Heather) Grisel, Bryan (Stacey) Grisel, Matthu (Tanya) Harmon, Nikolaus (Taylor) Cross, Ashlee (Mason) Floyd, and Aaron Grisel; and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Cherry was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanie Slagle; son, Michael D. Slagle; step-son, Tim Grisel; and brother, John Wethington.
Family and friends will gather for a graveside service Wednesday, July 13, at 11 a.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon. Final care of Cherry has been entrusted to the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon.
