Betty Jean Horlacher, 86, of Lebanon, died Monday, December 2, 2024, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was born January 10, 1938, in Zionsville, a daughter of the late Miley "Mike" and Marie "Minnie" (Wiggam) Smith. Betty married Glen W. Horlacher on March 23, 1958, and he preceded her in death April 7, 2018.
Betty graduated from Eagle Township High School and would get together with her classmates every year. Out of high school, Betty worked for Shell Oil Company until 1958. She then worked for Boone REMC, reading meters. Betty retired from the United States Postal Service, where she was a rural carrier. She was also a farmer's wife and would help her husband with the farm.
Betty was involved with 4-H, serving as the co-leader for Jefferson Township. She enjoyed golfing, along with playing euchre and bridge and would go to the nursing homes to play with the residents.
Survivors include her daughter, Lou Ann (Michael) Day; sons, Dennis and Douglas (Dianne) Horlacher; grandchildren, Ryan (Emily) Day, Erin (Hunter) Pratt, Levi Horlacher, Daniel Horlacher, Nicole Horlacher, Dylan Horlacher, and Lee Ann (Quincy) Novak; great grandchildren, Kyler and Keelie Wilhoite, Knoah Newport, Conrad and Rebecca Day, Logan and Davis Pratt, and Reilly and Finley Novak; and sisters-in-law, Lois Horlacher and Sandra Horlacher.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Richard, Ralph, Wayne, and Keith Smith; and sister, Faye Smith.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Homewood Health Campus and Brighton Hospice for taking such wonderful care of Betty.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Boone County 4-H or to the Shannondale Church.
Family and friends will gather Sunday, December 8, for visitation from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 9, at 10 a.m. in the mortuary. Betty will be laid to rest at Shannondale Cemetery.
