Obituary

Barbara Joan Hysong, born October 3, 1936, a daughter of the late Russell and Pauline (Wright) Myers, died Friday, December 22, 2023. She graduated from the Lebanon High School with the class of 1954 and soon after her father drove her to Farm Bureau where she got her first job.   Joan married Robert William Hysong, Sr., on March 17, 1957; they were married 57 years.

Joan also worked for Stewart Warner/Commercial Filters in Lebanon until the birth of their son, Robert William Hysong, Jr. on June 4, 1958.  She took a few years off from work to care for her new family. Joan was known by many in our community from her involvement as the head caterer and cook for the Boone County Fairgrounds. Joan was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to everything she was involved with.  In between these jobs Joan was always a farmer's wife, she helped her husband run their family farm.

The Hysong family was members of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon for many years. Joan enjoyed participating in the Boone County Home Ec Club having served as County President and Secretary/Treasurer, president of the Farm Bureau, Rural Youth, square dancing and playing euchre.

Joan is survived by her daughter-in-law, Janette Hysong of Warrenton, Missouri; sister, Sandy Hornbecker of Plainfield, Indiana; grandchildren, Christopher (Stephanie) Hysong of Missouri and Tracey (Jimmy) Allison of Montana; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Graham Hysong and the caretakers of her farm, Mike and Joyce Hysong and their children Kyle and Clayton. She was preceded in death by her husband and son.
