Obituary

Ava Ann Scott passed away on November 2, 2026, after a brief battle with Influenza Type A. Over Saturday, she went trick or treating, played with cousins and watched Hocus Pocus at Aunt Reechie’s house, and by Monday morning, she was gone.

She had just turned 10 years old.

Ava was the child of John and Sarah Scott, of Lebanon and was the absolute best big sister to Clara Scott. She was deeply loved by all who knew her, but will be missed particularly by her family, including Ron and Cherie Huser; Todd and Marcy Scott; Mamaw Sue Scott; Rachel Huser and Justin Curtis; Levi and Alexandra Scott, and Ila, Adam, Quinnlyn and Reylan Robinson. She will also be missed by her best friends: Raeanna Venden, Nathan Walker, and Henley Hoffman.

As sisters, Clara and Ava were like peanut butter & jelly - complete opposites yet belonging together. They were each other’s best friend. Every Saturday morning started with Clara waking up her sister to start their day. Ava took pride in her role as a big sister and protectively held Clara’s hand even if Clara didn’t feel like it that day.

Ava was a fiercely competitive individual who loved playing soccer for LYSA. She loved her teammates, was a leader on the field and held herself to high standards, working hard to improve throughout each season. Her defense led to many wins, including a tourney championship.

Ava also had a passion for roller coasters, particularly wooden ones, and she was always up for an outside adventure. Boating, hiking or rock climbing were her favorites. Right before the school year started, Ava, John and Clara would go hiking in a state park. The activity was a beloved tradition, with the trio walking many, many miles at Turkey Run, Shades, and Benjamin Harrison. Ava recently began planning a family trip to Zion National Park after going hiking in Colorado while attending the wedding of Uncle Levi and Aunt Alexan.

At the end of every day, Ava could be found cuddled up with “her” cat, Gracie, while reading a book. Ava wanted her love of books to be contagious and spoke about what she was reading to whoever would listen. She got to be a first-year member of 4-H and took great pride in her sheep, woodworking, floriculture, electric and photography projects. She even went to the State Fair with her floriculture exhibit and really enjoyed seeing it there. She was looking forward to continuing her 4-H experience in future years and had decided to make it one of her main activities.

Ava was a good person, a kind friend and always wanted to help others. Her goodness and potential cannot be contained in words. A world of Avas would have been a good world.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Golden Future Fund in Memory of Ava Ann Scott managed by the Community Foundation of Boone County to help youth pursue their dreams as Ava intended to pursue hers. Donations can also be made to the Children’s Department of the Thorntown Public Library- by mail or in person- to acknowledge the hours Ava spent amongst their shelves.

A reception will be held at the Witham Show Pavilion at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds on November 15th from 4-7pm. The family invites all who loved Ava to attend, eat her favorite nibbles, tell stories, and remember the lovely, bright human who changed our lives.

Final care of Ava has been entrusted to the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. You are invited to visit the website where you may sign her online register and leave a personal message at www.strawmyerdrury.com.
